VP Sustainability & Farming, Barry Callebaut
Nicolas Mounard was appointed in July 2022 to VP Sustainability & Farming. Since January 2024, Nicolas is VP ESG, Sustainability and Traceability, leading the whole sustainability
agenda of Barry Callebaut, including Forever Chocolate. ESG focus includes overarching
responsibility over ESG regulations such as EUDR or CSDDD (Corporate Sustainability
Due Diligence Directive). Nicolas is also a member of the Executive Leadership team.
Nicolas brings more than 15 years of experience in sustainable food value chains. After 3
years as financial auditor for Ernst & Young, he joined the leading Fairtrade and organic
French brand Alter Eco in 2005 where he started as Producer Support Manager and
became then the Chief Financial Officer in 2007 and the Chief Executive officer from
2008 to 2012. Alter Eco sells organic and Fairtrade food products such as chocolate,
coffee, tea, rice or fruit juice in the main French supermarkets.
In 2013, he joined the UK based coffee and cocoa organization Twin/Twin Trading as
managing director. The organization’s activities covered ethical coffee and cocoa value
chain development in Africa and Latin America and sustainable green coffee trading.
Twin was also the main shareholder of Divine Chocolate in the UK and the USA and
Nicolas sat, as a consequence, in the Board of Directors of Divine from 2013 to 2016.
In 2016, he joined the UK based charity Farm Africa as Chief Executive Officer, where he
stayed until joining Barry Callebaut. Farm Africa is an agriculture and environment NGO
providing tools and expertise to enable smallholders in East Africa to increase their
harvests, whether their farm crops, livestock, fish or the forest. Farm Africa has 170 staff
operating across the eastern African countries of Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Nicolas holds an MBA from ESSEC Business School in Paris.
