Independent Chair, Dutch Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa (DISCO)
Judith Sargentini is the independent chair of DISCO, the Dutch Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa. Sargentini is a former member of the European Parliament and the Amsterdam City Council. She started her career working for a development NGO focussed on Sub Sahara Africa and recently served as director for the Netherlands branch of Médecins Sans Frontières. Throughout her working life she has been involved in multi-stakeholder initiatives for sustainable and transparent trade and investment, reaching from the certification of diamonds to public procurement rules for Fair-Trade coffee. She co-designed the European anti-money laundering legislation and the regulation on the import of conflict minerals.
