Impact Investment Manager, Common Fund for Commodities
Peter Nielsen is an Impact Investment Manager with the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC), an intergovernmental financial institution established 35 years ago as part of the UN Integrated Programme for Commodities. Peter holds a BSc in Economics from SOAS, University of London, an MPhil from Cambridge University, and a Diploma in Green Finance from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management.
Through his work with the CFC, Peter originates, implements, and monitors lending to agri-SMEs in various value chains across Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. His focus is investments that deliver positive impacts in the cross-section of smallholder livelihoods, biodiversity, and climate. This has involved developing the CFC’s concept of ‘Inclusive Regenerative Agriculture’ to steer investment and impact decisions.
In addition to his work on impact loans, Peter leads the CFC’s strategic work on outcomes-based instruments including the structuring of development impact bonds and financing of payments for ecosystem services (PES).
Outside of his impact investment role, Peter is an organic apple orchardist and co-director of a cider mill in his home country, Denmark.
