Molecular Geneticist, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture
Dr. Bhattacharjee, Ranjana (Ph.D., Plant Breeding) is a Senior Scientist/Molecular Breeder working in the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (www.iita.org) from 2009 mainly focusing her research on genomics-assisted breeding in two important crops in West Africa, cocoa, and yams. She uses interdisciplinary knowledge and background in plant breeding, molecular biology, statistical genetics, and bioinformatics to develop efficient and effective breeding platforms for crop improvement. Her special interest lies in pursuing different approaches including development of molecular markers associated with different target traits including disease resistance, quality, and other agronomic and specific traits for crop improvement.
She is also keen in building stronger partnerships between different agencies including donors, researchers, NARS partners, ARI’s, private companies and other stakeholders; and capacity building through training and mentoring of graduate students and technical staff. She has more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in Thompson indexed journals and has an impact factor of 27.15 in ResearchGate portal.
