What is February without chocolate?
The World Cocoa Foundation (WCF), with support from its members, donated a variety of chocolate products to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) as a contribution to the 2023 edition of National Cocoa Day celebration, under the theme “Eat chocolate, stay healthy, grow Ghana”.
On Tuesday, February 14, Valentine’s Day, staff of WCF and COCOBOD distributed these chocolate products to cocoa farmer cooperatives and school pupils in all the cocoa-growing regions of Ghana to honor the day and to give these farmers and their children a taste of chocolate on this very special day.
In an interaction with the farmer cooperatives, the COCOBOD Executive Director for the Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED), Rev. Edwin Afari advised them to consume cocoa products and encourage others as well, to take advantage of the major health benefits of some of these products. He applauded the great work of farmers in producing quality cocoa and adopting proper farming practices which has helped the country in maintain its premium value on the international market.
Dr. Betty Annan, Country Director of WCF, emphasized the need for cocoa farmers in the country to appreciate and consume the final product of their hard work and dedication.
“Farmers work, day-in and day-out but the purchasing level of the final products is low, that is why we are celebrating the 2023 chocolate day with them in their respective communities.” She said. She added that WCF is in support of the Ghana Cocoa Board in their quest to boost farmers’ consumption of cocoa products.
The team went on to visit public schools in these communities where they distributed chocolate to the students, teachers, and headteachers.
