Country Director Ghana, CARE International
Michael Alandu is a global public policy and development executive and thought leader with more than 20 years of experience in designing, managing, staffing and scaling complex programs and organizational transformation across sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to joining CARE International, he worked with the World Bank in Washington, DC, USA, supporting its governance and parliamentary strengthening programs across sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
Michael has served in senior country, regional, and global leadership roles within CARE International. He currently serves as Country Director for CARE International in Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, where he designs and manages country presence and strategy reviews, organizational restructuring, and strategic repositioning to strengthen CARE’s relevance and impact at scale.
Throughout his career, Michael has mobilized and managed millions of dollars for development and humanitarian responses, successfully advocated for national policy reforms that increased agricultural productivity for women in northern Ghana, expanded access to finance for women-led businesses, strengthened education and social outcomes for girls, and advanced solar-powered entrepreneurship for community and women-owned small-scale businesses. Known for his ability to work effectively across sectors and cultures, he brings deep contextual insight and practical leadership experience to global conversations on partnerships, change management, public policy accountability, and scaling sustainable impact. He is fluent in English and French and speaks three Ghanaian languages.
